Salem district is one of the major district in the Indian state of Tamilnadu and the sixth largest urban and metropolitan city in the state by population. It is the first district to be formed in India on 4th April 1792.                                                                         Attur Fort

 Attur Fort is a historic fort located at Attur in the Salem District of Tamilnadu. The fort was built by a Palaiyakkarar chieftain called Gatti Mudaliar Dynasty during the 17th century. The total area of the fort is 62 acres and it is said that the British used the fort to store their weapon from 1792 by the 23rd Madras Battalion under the command of Captain Campbell. The fort has two palaces, a pool, an audience chamber, a court, three treasuries and three temples. Now it is under the control of Archeological Survey of India and maintained by them.

                                                      Kurumbapatti Zoological Park

 This zoo is a mini zoo situated in the foothills of shervorayan hills. The park has a gentle topography, areas of bamboo and woodland and recognized a small category zoo and has a children's playground area. The park features spotted deer, sambar deer, white peacock, grey pelican, little egret, grey hero, turtle, marsh crocodile, star tortoise, rose-ringed parakeet and other species. The park recently received three Asian Palm Civets and five plum headed parakeets and also it is going to have a big renovation which will have tiger, butterflies with garden.

                                                                         Sowriyur

 

Sowriyur is a village in salem district and it is famous for cloth manufacturing and silk sarees and also have many temples dedicated to God Vinayagar, Murugar, Sivan, Vishnu and Amman and temple festivals attracts many people from in and around the village.

                                                                    Muttal Waterfalls

Muttal waterfalls is located in Attur in the salem district of tamilnadu. The waterfalls is situated in the spot called Aanaivari in the forest area of muttal village. The heavy flow of water falls attracts a large number of tourist from the western districts and it is under the control of the forest department. The department is responsible to make sure that the place has all the basic facilities for tourists like boating with life jackets, dress changing rooms and others.                                                               Kailasanathar Temple 

 Kailasanathar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is situated in Tharamangalam in the salem district of tamilnadu. The front tower of the temple is 90 feet high and has five tiers and the tower looks like a huge chariot pulled by horses and elephants. During the month of masi sunlight passes through Nandi's horn and falls on Shivalinga like a third crescent and many devotees come the temple to witness this and get the blessings of lord shiva. The sculpture is made in such a way that cupid is not visible from the statue of the chariot and chariot is visible from the statue of the cupid.
